Just when you thought the iPhone rumor mill had run dry, KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo revealed a new, cheaper handset.

The trusted analyst this week hinted at a next-gen Apple device, expected to cost $550 for a massive 6.1-inch screen.

That’s the same price as 2015’s iPhone 6s Plus, but with a larger LCD display—plus a number of Apple’s latest specs, including a TrueDepth camera  and edge-to-edge screen.

The unnamed gadget (iPhone 9? iPhone 8 Plus Plus?) is Cupertino’s attempt to “increase market share in China,” where the tech titan competes with homegrown firms Huawei and ZTE, Kuo said, as reported by The Sun.

A budget handset, meanwhile, could help offset sluggish sales of the iPhone X, which, despite its high-tech specs, has become a $999 lemon (which has loads of useful features you may not have noticed).

Neither Kuo nor Apple immediately responded to Geek’s request for comment.

The anniversary iDevice may get a second wind, though. Earlier this year, whispers of three new variants began swirling. Details are, of course, scant, but the speculation is convincing.

First up is the expected upgrade to the existing iPhone X: a more powerful A12 processor, iOS 12, and maybe a new color—an iPhone Xs, if you will. The middling option would swap the OLED screen for LCD and steel parts for aluminum, reducing quality as well as price—let’s call this the iPhone Xc.

The most drastic change would come in the form of, um … the iPhone XL? Reports tipped a bigger, bezel-free body (weighing in around 6.5 inches) and 2,688-by-1,242 resolution, as well as improve face-scanning tech and a split-screen mode.

We can speculate until we’re blue in the face (and trust me, we will). But nothing will be confirmed (officially, at least) until Apple’s next unveiling—probably in September.

Until then, start saving.

China has banned Apple

Qualcomm said that the court Fuzhou (China) granted the request of two preliminary injunctions against four Chinese subsidiaries of Apple. They were instructed to immediately stop the infringement of two Qualcomm patents by an unlicensed import, sale and offer to sell in China the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 and iPhone Plus X. Previously, these two patents were valid Chinese patent office SIPO.

“We highly value our relationship with customers, rarely turning to the courts for help, but we also firmly believe in the need to protect intellectual property rights, said don Rosenberg (Don Rosenberg), Executive Vice President and General counsel, Qualcomm Incorporated. — Apple continues to benefit from our intellectual property, refusing to give us a refund. These injunctions are another confirmation of the strength of the extensive patent portfolio of Qualcomm”.

The patents in question in this case, allow you to customize and change the size and appearance of your photos, and manage applications using the touch screen.

In China and other jurisdictions around the world are awaiting the decision of similar requests to cease violations of Apple’s other patents of Qualcomm.

Oops: Apple’s Squid Emoji is Upside Down

Silicon Valley has a habit of not learning from its mistakes.

The Internet made a scene early this year when Unicode revealed 157 new emojis—including something vaguely like a wheeled transport device, a backwards Deoxyribonucleic acid, and an anatomically incorrect shellfish.

Now, we all send texts featuring modern skateboards, right-handed double helixes, and 10-legged lobsters … and, apparently, upside-down squid.

On Wednesday, the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California tweeted the alarming fact that “Apple’s squid emoji is upside down.”

“Not even squidding,” the museum wrote. “The siphon should be behind the head. [Right now] it just looks like a weirdo nose.”

The muscular structure, located on the mantle, is used for respiration and discharge of waste, as well as locomotion. Water gets sucked into the mantle cavity, then pushed out of the funnel in a fast, strong jet. Its direction can be changed to suit the traveler’s route.

But no matter what, the siphon can not physically move from one side of the body to the other.

In Cupertino’s version, the cephalopod looks like Karl Malden.

“I noticed the error when I first saw the game but had some pressing ocean issues prioritized ahead of it,” Patrick Webster, social media content creator at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, said in a statement emailed to Geek. “[Wednesday] morning, a meme template with a penchant for biologically accurate emoji asked to use our Twitter feed for a quick PSA, and now here we are.”

The squid emoji was first introduced in 2016. But folks must have been too incensed by Google’s upside-down cheeseburger to even notice.

More than 70 new emoji were released as part of Apple’s recent iOS 12.1 update; iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac users now have access to characters with red, grey, or curly hair, more emotive smiley faces; and additional representations of animals, sports, and food (including a cream cheese-covered bagel).

There is no word on whether the squid issue will be resolved. Apple did not immediately respond to Geek’s request for comment.

Editor’s note: This article was updated on Friday, Dec. 7, with comment from the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

The company Japan Display, which is Apple’s supplier as claimed, this month began to reduce the production of LCD panels for smartphones iPhone XR. This is because sales of this model were below expectations.

The reduction is approximately 30% compared with the November level. It will lead to a deterioration of the performance of the company, which was considering a contract with Apple to supply displays for iPhone XR as a lifeboat, able to pull her out of the strip in annual losses continuing for four years.

Factory Japan Display are already cutting production of iPhone panels XR and completely stop the Assembly for 10 days during the Christmas holidays.

Last month the company lowered its sales growth Outlook for the financial year ending on her in March next year, with 10-20% to 5-15%. Simultaneously lowered the operating profit forecast.

Interestingly, Apple is positioning the iPhone as the XR model of the mass segment (smartphone cheaper than other models), recently stated that it is her best selling smartphone. However, the sales statistics, the manufacturer does not publish, though before he did it.
